His name is Huggy, Huggy Wuggy! When he hugs you he'll never stop! Your friend Huggy, Huggy Wuggy! He'll squeeze you until you pop!”— Huggy Wuggy theme song in Poppy Playtime

Huggy Wuggy is a toy produced by Playtime Co., who debuted in Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze as the main antagonist. He is the mascot of Playtime Co. and one of the company's most popular toys. He was last seen falling into the abyss of the factory at the end of Chapter 1.

Huggy Wuggy is a tall, slender creature covered in thick, bright blue fur. His arms and legs are several feet in length and end in large yellow hands and feet. The hands have large Velcro straps on them, and the feet possess four digits including thumbs, though they are fused together and are unable to move individually (with the exception of the thumbs). His torso is stout and disproportionately small in comparison to his long limbs. His head is large and contains two large black, dilated eyes. On his face are oversized, bright red, cartoonish lips.

His monster counterpart remains largely the same, with the exception of his eyes being dilated bigger than intended, giving off a deranged and disturbing physique. Behind his lips is a maw of dozens of jagged needle-like teeth. Closer observation of Huggy's mouth shows a secondary set of jaws located by his throat, akin to that of a Moray Eel.

Personality

As a toy and mascot, Huggy Wuggy is demonstrated to be warm and welcoming, giving anyone warm hugs. He is also noted to be quiet and doesn't speak often, thus preferring hugs as his interaction method.

His monster counterpart, however, shows him to be a murderous creature, slaughtering anyone he encounters. While chasing after the player, Huggy constantly wears a deranged toothy smile, suggesting that he enjoys hunting his victims (or more simply that his anatomy prevents him from not smiling).

Story

Backstory

Huggy Wuggy was created in 1984 by Playtime Co., in which he became a roaring success and became one of the many signature toys in Playtime Co. A feminine counterpart was created a year after Huggy's creation. During an unknown date in time, In an effort to create the perfect living toy, Playtime Co. conducted numerous unethical and highly illegal experiments, one such example being Huggy Wuggy. Despite being created for the purpose of becoming a child-friendly mascot and being a prototype, Huggy went rampant. During his murderous rampage, Huggy killed many of the scientists and workers of the facility he was kept in. Huggy would go on to remain in the abandoned facility for decades until the eventual return of The Player.

Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze

Huggy is first seen standing in his statue form by the player in an exhibition hall. When the player's back is turned, Huggy will hold a key on his right arm but remain motionless. After taking the key and turning the power back on in the Innovation Wing, the player returns to the exhibition hall only to find that Huggy has now disappeared. Huggy goes on to stalk the player as they make their way through the facility. After the player manages to turn back on the toy-making machines and bypasses a door system using a toy made from the machines, Huggy reveals himself. Following the player into the facility's ventilation system, an intense chase ensues as Huggy attempts to catch and devour the player. After managing to momentarily escape Huggy and landing on a brittle catwalk, the player pulls a crate onto the crumbling structure just as Huggy bursts from the vents, causing it to collapse. Though the player manages to land safely on another catwalk not far below, Huggy strikes the railing and proceeds to fall into the abyss on the facility, slamming into several pipelines and leaving behind dark red blood splatters.

Chapter 2: Fly in a Web

Huggy does not make an appearance in this chapter, but is instead mentioned in the second tape discussing experiment 1-0-0-6, in which he was confirmed to be a different entity, as he went with the alias Experiment 1-1-7-0 instead. He also is presumed to make a comeback, as inside the Water Treatment zone, a vent surrounded in blood and blue fur can be seen around a specific room.

Abilities and Anatomy

While walking, Huggy has a stiff, yet rather lithe and oddly organic-looking gait. He is capable of breaking into incredible bursts of speed, using his long arms and legs to propel himself forward. While crawling through the vents after the player, Huggy is able to bend and contort his body to fit into tight spaces. Before the player drops the crate onto Huggy on the catwalk, he can be seen sprinting towards the player on all fours, much like an ape. Due to his sheer height of a whopping 17 feet tall, he possesses a size advantage against average humans. During the vent chase, Huggy is able to cut off and keep up with the player by navigating through the ventilation system.

In Log 08502, Huggy was briefly mentioned as Experiment 1170, and was dubbed the most optimal subject, as he possesses the ideal amount of intelligence and is obedient to the scientists working at the company.

Trivia

  • According to Zachary Preciado, Huggy Wuggy was not actually inspired by any animal like a dog. Instead, he was unironically inspired by Sour Patch Kids
    • Editors Note: This information was told in a discord voice chat, so there isn't a citation currently. We are working on trying to obtain/find one.
  • Huggy Wuggy's height stays inconsistent throughout chapters.
    • During Chapter 1: A Tight Squeeze; it was said that Huggy Wuggy was 17 feet[2], although after Chapter 2: Fly in a Web's release, it was said on Twitter that Huggy was 18 feet[3].
  • In a trailer headshot close-up of Huggy, it seems that behind his plastic "eyes" lie big shot, human-like eyes.
    • However, this has been proven false, as it turns out the eyes assumed to have been viewed as a reflection of the floor. Inside the Poppy Playtime Maintenance is most presumably Poppy's eyes (Or, as another theory suggests, Stella’s eyes)
    • His lips and teeth move around when Huggy Wuggy attacks the player.
  • Huggy Wuggy is confirmed to be Kissy Missy's lover, based on Kissy Missy's profile on the digital collectible website.
    • The term better half is a term for a spouse.
  • An interesting fact to note is that one of the Huggy Wuggy toys in the Playtime Area seems to be sitting down with the front of the box broken or opened, this Huggy toy is seen with his eyes blacked out and a large grin showing his teeth.
  • Huggy Wuggy is presumed to be the one who wrote the countless words within the walls during the Vent Chase.
    • This is evident by the fact that some writings say "Starving" and "I'm so hungry."
      • Further proven by the fact that he seems to eat you when you die.
    • Huggy is also presumed an ex-human, as a writing in the Vent Chase says "This isn't my body."
      • This however can be proven as false, as Huggy is presumed to be the one who wrote the writings in the Vent Chase
